Help bring Newshounds to your state

A couple of minutes. One email. A very important message.

Newshounds teaches primary school children to STOP, THINK and CHECK before believing everything they see online.

Until recently, the free, curriculum-aligned media literacy program was being used in more than 5,000 classrooms around Australia.

In 2026, the South Australian Government entered into a four-year partnership with Newshounds, making the program freely available to primary schools across South Australia.

That's fantastic news for South Australian kids.

But it also means that, for now, free access to Newshounds has been withdrawn from schools in the rest of Australia.

We want to change that. And you can help.

Ask your government to bring Newshounds to your state

We're asking parents, carers, teachers and anyone who believes Australian children should be taught how to navigate misinformation and disinformation to contact their Premier or Chief Minister and Education Minister.

It only takes a couple of minutes.

Step 1: Copy the letter

We've done most of the work for you.

Copy the suggested letter below, add the name of your Premier or Education Minister and, if you'd like, add a sentence or two about why media literacy matters to you.

Personal messages can be especially powerful, so feel free to make it your own.

Dear [Premier / Chief Minister / Education Minister],

Teaching our children to think critically about the content they consume online has become a vital 21st century life skill, and one that should be taught at school.

Newshounds is a world-first media literacy classroom resource that, until recently, was being used in more than 5,000 classrooms around Australia. It was free, curriculum-aligned, academically tested and effective, teaching children to STOP, THINK and CHECK before believing everything they see online.

In 2026, the South Australian Government entered into a four-year partnership with the creators of Newshounds to make the program freely available to primary schools across South Australia.

I am writing to ask your government to follow South Australia's lead.

As a result of the South Australian partnership, free access to Newshounds has now been withdrawn from schools outside South Australia.

That means children in our state now stand to miss out on this important media literacy education.

The creators of Newshounds have written to your government outlining the modest investment required to make this plug-and-play classroom resource available across our state's primary schools.

At a time when children are being exposed to unprecedented amounts of online content, including misinformation, disinformation and AI-generated material, I believe universal media literacy education is an important investment in the next generation.

It is certainly high on my list of priorities as a voter.

I urge your government to take a leadership position on this important issue, and I will be closely following developments.

Yours faithfully,

[Your name]

[Your suburb/town, if you wish]

Step 2: Send your message

Find your state or territory below.

Sent it? Thank you.

Every message helps show state and territory governments that parents, teachers and communities want Australian children equipped to navigate misinformation, disinformation and AI-generated content.

Together, we can make Australian kids the most media literate kids in the world.
